Today I had the opportunity to test drive a new style of presenting that involves using a SMART Board. The experience was unique. My partner and I developed a short PowerPoint slideshow of five slides that were mostly blank, the only text being the title of each slide. As we presented I drew the next portion of the image we had previously chosen to illustrate our point, directly on the digital screen. It was akin to using my Wacom tablet but very large and in front of a crowd. The response from our audience was overwhelmingly positive. I am convinced that given the nature of a presentation, if you have the opportunity to test out a system like this and are required to give a presentation, I highly recommend presenting in this way.
As kitschy as they are Presentation Zen and The Back of the Napkin are two of the books that I relied on to develop the idea to present this way. We’re lucky to have the SMART Board in our classroom but between the efficiency of using PowerPoint in this way and ‘unveiling’ the information in a more interactive way, the audience is engaged in a unique way. As I mentioned, our audience said that they enjoyed the presentation which has me sold on it thus far.
Anyway, I’m going to try to get ahead on the comic this weekend but classes are gearing up and the amount of homework I have is steadily increasing. So much of my sanity revolves around doing the strip every day that I will do my best to maintain the daily update schedule as long as I can. The strip has been going for six full months now! Alright, I’m off to bed. Hope everyone has a great day!
